General Information...
Why should anyone have a web site?
As more and more people are exposed to the latest technology, there is a greater personal need to use what is now out there. Businesses that relied on mail order through catalogs and other mailed advertising material have come to the realization that it more economical to place the information on a business web site and allow the customer to order directly from the site. People have become quite comfortable with online buying once they see that the proper security methods are in place.
Individuals wishing to publicize information to organizations or fraternal lodges have also realized that information on a web site is not discarded as a piece of mail might be. It will remain on the site for further reference until the author takes it off.
Once the decision is made to design, develop and maintain a web site for your personal or professional reasons, there are certain factors to keep in mind to keep the site as viable and as interesting as it was when it was first placed on the web for viewing.
1. It must be kept fresh and must not become stagnant. Changing the design of the site at least once a year keeps it interesting.
2. All of the site's content must be up to date and must provide a service to the viewer.
3. You, as the owner, must always look at your site through the eyes of the person that you wish to visit the site. Ask yourself, why should I come back to this site on a regular basis? What am I getting out of each visit? A chance at a new product? a new idea? a new service? some news that I wouldn't be exposed to without the visit?
4. Remember, before you put the site on the web, think about who you want your target population to be? Are you aiming your efforts to a certain demographic? Does the site appeal to that demographic group through its colors, graphics, design, the font used and its general appearance?
Think about all of these factors before you decide to spend the money required to bring your site to fruition and to maintain it during the years to come.
